The most confusing thing about cribs is how to assemble them. This can sometimes be tricky, so we have put together a foolproof guide to assist you when you assemble your drop-side baby crib.
A drop side crib refers to when a crib has a side that slides down to give you better access to the baby. The sliding makes it easy to reach for the baby. Parents won’t need to reach into the crib or struggle to get hold of the baby. This is also great for when the baby is sleeping as you can simply place the child into the crib.
Drop-side cribs have gotten a bad reputation in the past because of the moving parts. The parts are subject to wear and tear and can fail. There have been instances of children being hurt or even killed when the drop-down side failed. Some children have even become trapped when the drop-side fails.
To ensure your child’s safety it is very important that you assemble your drop-down side crib correctly.
The first step is to make sure that you have all the parts and that they are all in perfect working order. Gather all the supplies that you will need in order to put the crib together.
You will need the following:
Make sure that you have enough space for you to be able to move around the crib easily. Throwdown a drop cloth or sheet and work on top of it. This will prevent you from losing any pieces as well as prevent any screws from rolling away. Make sure that you have all the tools that you will need at hand so that you can use them when you need to.
The next step is to attach the latch brackets to the headboard and the footboard. Remember to make sure that the brackets are fitted securely and are facing the inside of the crib when you assemble it.
Once you have completed the second step it is time to attach the stationary rail. This can be done by placing one dowel through the headboard and footboard on one side of the crib. Insert the rod through the holes in the latch brackets and then screw them into place. If the headboard keeps moving we advise that you ask someone to hold the headboard and footboard in place for you so that it doesn’t move around.
The next step is to add mattress support. On most products, there will be a sticker showing you which side goes face up and which side should go down. First, screw the attaching parts onto the springs then attach it to the headboard and footboard using the nuts and bolts provided.
Your crib is complete and the side should be easy to maneuver up and down. Now all you need to do is add your mattress. Then your baby’s new crib is ready to securely hold your little bundle of joy.
